Healthy Bodies

Mrs. Perry, our counselor educator, will be coming to our class each Friday for three weeks to talk about healthy bodies.  She started last Friday and taught our class an overview on ways to stay healthy.  The children brainstormed different things they could do to help keep their bodies healthy (see above).  She primarily focused on exercise during this lesson.  The children each had to come up with an exercise they could do at home to stay fit.  We practiced different exercises in the classroom together.  At the end of her lesson, each child filled out a "Get Fit" card where they drew a picture of something they could do to exercise at home.  She asked them how many minutes or how many of that exercise they would try to do over the weekend at home (see below).  She wrote this number on their paper for them.  For example, some children said they would run over the weekend.  She asked them how long they wanted to run for (such as 1 or 2 minutes) and then she wrote this down on their paper.  Learning about ways to stay healthy has also been a focus of our Al's Pals curriculum in recent weeks.  Mrs. Perry will be coming in for two more weeks to talk about germs and sleep.  During the month of March, an instructor from UMass will be coming in each week to teach all kindergartners about Nutrition.
