There are a lot of new center activities that have opened in our classroom recently. One of these centers is the art center. When the children visit this center, they use recycled items to make creations. Their imaginations have helped them create houses, boats, parks and many other things. When your child brings home their "creation," ask them what they made and how they decided on what to include on it. We are currently collecting recycled items to stock our laundry basket so send in any donations you have. Here are some things that are great for this center...
- tissue boxes
- shoe boxes
- other boxes (such as toothpaste, soap, cereal, granola bar, etc...)
- egg cartons
- Any art supply that you think the children would like to use to glue onto their creations
Another popular center is playdoh. This center has been opened all year but was recently stocked with homemade playdoh (many bright colors) that was given to us by Mr. Bell. At this center you will find cookie cutters, rolling pins, other plastic cutting tools and cards to show how to form letters/words with playdoh.
Next week a new center will be opening. Our house area is being transformed into a restaurant center. This week we are making all the preparations needed to stock this center with what it needs. It currently has a counter, equipped with a cash register. It has seating for eight. It also has a kitchen area where the cooks can prepare the food. This week, the children will be designing placemats, menus and creating a sign for the name of the restaurant (which we will vote on). Here is what it looks like so far. More pictures will be posted next week after the grand opening.
Here is a list of things that we came up with together that would complete our restaurant center. We have most things covered but are still in need of a few things. We still need a child's apron (for the waiter/waitress) and tablecloths. Additional supplies that might also be nice to have are a plastic pitcher, empty spice containers (for the chef's to use), empty ketchup or mustard containers, or plastic salt/pepper shakers. If anyone has either of these things and can lend or donate them to our classroom please let me know.
