Spring is in the Air!

Over the last several weeks we have been learning all about the season of spring in our classroom! We started off this topic with a brainstorming session about what the children already knew about this season. They had a lot of great ideas about the changes that take place, the things that grow and what starts to come out during spring. We read several books about spring, some non fiction and others fiction books. Both kinds of books provided us with some more facts about what takes place during spring. After each book, different children had the opportunity to write down their ideas on our "Spring Web." During this time, we reviewed some of the things good writers do when writing down their ideas (leave spaces, put ending marks, use capitalization at the start of their sentence, etc...). We will continue our discussion of spring over the next several weeks. We have several exciting projects to complete around this topic, including a spring journal exploring the 5 senses, spring paintings, and even planting seeds. Look for future posts about these projects.
