Chrysanthemum

We recently read a book called "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes during math time.  In this book, we learned that the main character, Chrysanthemum, had 13 letters in her name.  After reading this story, everyone in the class made a "name tower" to show how many letters were in their name.  They added stickers on their towers so they could write the letters of their names on each cube.
Next, they needed to compare the length of their name with their classmates' names.  They did this by measuring their towers with another child's name tower.

Then they needed to record the names on paper, deciding whether to put their classmates' name in the shorter, same, or longer column.
