The children in Room 221 have been busy little bees over the past few weeks. Here are some of the units and activities we are currently working on in our classroom.
- Exploring the 5 senses
- We have been writing a spring journal in which we draw pictures of things we experience with our senses during this season.
- Learning about the Farm (May 30th is the field trip)
- In preparation for our field trip next week, we have been reading many books on different farm animals.
- Each child is currently writing a book about farm animals.
- Getting Ready for our Author's Celebration (June 1st is our celebration)
- The children have been finishing up the last two books for this celebration. One is a book about the farm. The other book is on a topic your child chose to write about. They were instructed to choose something they knew a lot about and wanted to share with their classmates. They look forward to sharing them with you next week.
- Creating folders to keep all of their books they wrote.
- Practicing reading their books for next week. The day before the Author's Celebration, your child's preschool teachers have been invited to come listen to them share their books. This will be good practice for your child. It will be exciting for them to show their reading/writing skills to their former teachers.
- Planting
- To go along with our farm unit, the children are learning about plants. They are learning about what kinds of things are plants or come from plants (ex. flowers, trees, fruits, vegetables, herbs).
- Reading books about planting.
- Learning about the different parts of a plant.
- Planting green beans, observing what takes place and filling in a garden journal.
- Learning how to tell TIME to the hour in math
- Making clocks to practice telling time.
- Reading books about time.
- Learning a song to help remember the parts of the clock.
Here are the spring paintings our class did recently.
